Been there, done that. They used remote support to try to kill it. Couldn't. Had to IPL last night. That killed it then I was able to use the tape drive again. Still not sure what happened. IBM recommended the latest cume (we were back in November 2002) and group DB and Hiper PTFs; there was also a stray ptf we needed (and I don't have the number handy).
