You need to create your table using SQL, not DDS. In order to use it also in RPG, you can create the table using the record name as table name, and renamig after to the table name. This is in order to avoid having the same name for the table and for the record.

I know that I saw a post about using a field in a file as a key, and auto-magically having the system increment the number. I also remember that you can only have one per file. I can't seem to find it in the archives, nor can I find it in the email entries I have saved with good tips. Am I dreaming? Can someone point me in the right direction??

You may want to search for AUTOINCREMENT (or maybe AUTO_INCREMENT).
