I think marketed properly that the AS/400 could achieve a level of marketshare in the database application market enjoyed currently by Microsoft on the desktop. To say all others would all go away was meant as hyperbole. I apologize for any confusion. You of course are right that you need bare-metal communications machines. Of course, that could've been the Series/1, which come to think of it would have made one heck of a Linux platform (although I think EDX would have worked just as well for the apps we see most often on Linux today). With OS/2 on the desktop, we could easily be working in entirely blue shops. Scary thought... Joe
