You're not paranoid.  The foibles of Larry Ellison are well document.
In a mid-'90s article in Fortune Magazine he is quoted as saying that
he'd do anything to make a sale including lying.  Ellison is not
trustworthy.  If he envisions the iSeries as a serious competitor I can
easily see him buying Peoplesoft just to be able to stop selling JDE on
the iSeries box.  If he thinks this would give him a competitive
advantage then money will be no object.
