It should connect via SCSI, you would just need to get the right cable - probably looks like it has a big parallel printer port on the back? If so, that's old-flavor SCSI and you should be able to hook it right up (QAUTOCFG *ON) Is it under maintenance? If not, read up on aligning the flipper and whatnot - those are notorious for losing their alignment when sitting for a long time. Also, if you're feeling frisky you may want to check the tension on the main belt that runs the screw-drive for up/down on the picker. Those can get loose, and although the picker will usually work when the belt is cold, after using it for a while it will heat up, stretch, and slip. NOTE FROM EXPERIENCE: DO *NOT* PUT HAND IN THE I/O SLOT TO REMOVE COVER. Lost a few cuticles and a few ounces of blood over that - simply grab the case on each side after all screws are out and pull back. The i/o slot looks like a nice handle to put your fingers in, but it'll bite. Just some generalizations, but hope it is of some assistance. jch -----Original Message----- From: Tom Jedrzejewicz @ San Pedro [mailto:TJedrzejewicz@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, June 05, 2003 4:48 PM To: midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Old optical library - help! Folks -- We have an optical library (model 3995-C20). The tag on the back shows it manufactured in January of 1997. It was connected to our old AS/400 (620) at one point, but never used. It is not connected to our current iSeries (820). Apparently it was LAN-connected to the old 620, via an OS/2 PC. Can anyone out there tell me if I can still use the device, how I would connect it to my 820, or anything else that might help me figure out what to do with this thing? Thanks!
