Thanks for the reply, James: Yeah, I assumed that what I would find would be a binary of the product. Almost all (if not all) of the GNU offerings can be found pre-compiled for a variety of platforms. I was hoping for this sort of distribution for iSeries. I agree that it wouldn't make much sense to port the product to another language. At first glance, Patrick Townsend's offerings will satisfy the need. It's a bit of overkill, though, since FTP is not allowed within this particular installation.... but I'll discuss that with him offline. I guess a binary respository for OS/400-based GNU offerings is still over the horizon. A shame. Porting it to another language besides a C related one would be... nuts. In theory porting it should not be too hard. I'm guessing that by far the most difficult part would be getting the build process right.
