Short Version: From a totally blank single hard drive system: Load LIC (v4r5) goes fine. When selecting 'Install OS' the response is 'Install must be done from the main console display' No Save Tapes. no backups. Just the new v4r5 cd's. I have tried just about everything; but obviously not the right thing ;) Long/Detailed Version: Note: I KNOW this is long an drawn out, but it is to show the amount of effort and work i have put into this before seeking help. Also, it shows i have spent many days going through this list looking for solutions.) Acquired a 9402-400 2131 Hardware includes: aprox 200 meg ram 6503 (Drive Controller?) in far left slot Added a 6050 (Twinax) in next to left slot (moved 2617 ethernet card over 1 slot) 2617 Ehternet (third from left) two empty slots 2609 (embedded on main board/not in a slot) 2x2612 v.24 ('in 2609') Also on back of the 400: db9 female marked MI (machine interface) db9 female marked UPS db25 female no markings (is this a parallel port?) 6x6606 drives several have stiction for simplicity, removed all drives except one good drive. set 02 DM, inserted first cd, powered up. at dst, formatted drive, et cetera... Installed LIC; everything went exactly by the book. When selecting 'Install the Operating System' the response is 'Install must be done from the main console display'. Same with Perform Automatic installation of the operating system. At one point when I selected Performa IPL, I would get the 'Manual or Automatic' screen for installing the OS. And it would! I was so happy :) Then it would go great until it got to the 'Rebuilding Database' and the console would go away, and I would get a A9003318 (i think that was the code). The IBM Site says this is caused by the QCONSOLE trying to use the Operations Navigator console (meaning having Client Express installed and working) as the main console. It gives great advice about how to do QDEVNAMING or QAUTOCONFIG=OFF; but considering there is no OS loaded.... In DST I have tried both 1)Local Console and 2)Operations Console in: Work with DST Environment, Work with System Devices, Console Mode I have also spent a great deal of time trying to get Client Express Operations Console to work. I am now assuming this is the "Main Console Display" the install is referring to. But I am finding it very hard to determine exactly what port the 'Console Cable' should be plugged into. (Don't laugh, I'm not so dumb I am trying to plug a db9 into a db25). What I mean by trouble is this: I can get the Remote Panel to work Consistantly and Perfectly. Plug cable from Com1 (db9) on PC into MI on as400. set to 115k. Viola! Now the manuals mention hooking the second cable up. to what? the 2612? Which 2612? The db25 female (parallel or serial)? (electrically it appears to be parallel)... I have also gone through the 192.168.0.0 network issues relating to CAE, different PCs, Different OS's (Win98, win2k, NT4) Each with thier own 'Special' problems.. (Cant find entry in address book)... CAE Service packs, Windows Service PAcks...... URRRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!! I have two terminals connected to the 6050. One on Black Box Port ) and one on port 7.
