I wonder if that changes with the economy.  When your company's rolling in 
the dough then going to a conference is like a reward.  When things are 
tight then the education had better be worth it.  Then again, when it's 
too tight, some don't care if you volunteer to sleep on a park bench.

One of the issues I see here is the attendence is way down at the venus 
with cheap housing (Indianapolis, Cincinatti, Baltimore, etc). When asked 
where to have conferences the replies are: San Antonio, New Orleans, San 
Francisco, Orlando, Las Vegas etc.

>From the attendence figures it seems like folks would rather pay higher 
rates and go to great places. So what's a conference to do?
