Hi. I'm a first time caller, long time listener (OK, a couple of weeks but
it sounds better to say it that way). It's not that bad at all. It uses
ODBC from the PC app to the AS/400 files (or other ODBC compliant source).
I've used MS Access before in this manner and Showcase has a few more bells
and whistles (but compared to Microsoft that's not too surprising).
Installing it on a PC is pretty straightforward. I have run into one
instance where it's a little confusing until you get your default data
source set up for the first time. After that I consider it to be a piece
of cake.
I like it's ability to link to an Excel spreadsheet and insert a variable
number of rows. These rows can expand and contract as you change your
criteria. I haven't tried it with Access or anything else yet but probably
will soon. There's a component in the form of a job that runs on the 400
side but I don't have much experience with that other than ending it and
restarting it after we restarted TCP/IP once. It uses AS/400 security but
more restrictions can be imposed if desired.
I've set it up to pull a multilevel bill-of-material from BPCS to Excel for
distribution for engineering review/changes.

HI I am looking at a situation where this product is in use. Is this
difficult to learn? Are the links to the AS/400 easy to setup?
Thanks,
Rob
