Joe, I am a huge iSeries bigot. However, blanket comparisons with Windows does nothing. While it is true that you can run programs written a decade ago, you'd be hard pressed to run V5R2 on hardware from a decade ago. And as far as the "Scratch reloads" go. It get's pretty close. How many have experienced "Link Loader" issues or other some such thing and have to reinstall LIC, and all ptfs? Depending on your threshold for pain, your answer may be "too many". I also think that the more IBM abandons native programming and relies on the mass produced qshell, pase, or *nix environments the more unstable the platform becomes. That may be because of any number of issues, including but not limited to: - threads and semaphores (based on my very limited experience) being an unstable platform - people developing in that environment being used to machine lock ups requiring an IPL not understanding "what the big deal is about an IPL" This is were I've noticed the bulk of the serious problems. And the serious increase in the time required to resolve them. Rob Berendt -- "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
