Multiple member files have their own problems also. You can never add any referential constraints on a multiple member file. All your applications would have to change, or you would have to add a special logical file which included all members (which may or may not still entail changing all your applications) to specify the member. What window can you be without this file? If it takes 3 days to reorg this file, then how many members would you have to have to break this down sufficiently? Can you either delete some of these records, or remove some of these records to an archive version? There was some very recent discussions on: - reorging a large file, - whether to use RGZPFM, FMTDTA, CPYF, custom programming, etc - And if you do reorg, etc, then to sort the data to fit your most performance critical key.
