I just found 'DDS and EDTWRD' in two clicks. I went here: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r2/ic2924/index.htm Typed in 'DDS and EDTWRD' and took link #3 from the search window to get me here: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r2/ic2924/index.htm?info/rzakc/rzakcmstdfedwrd.htm ** Try 'dds reference' in your initial search from the front page: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r2/ic2924/index.htm Seems to work ok. -----Original Message----- From: Booth Martin [mailto:Booth@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, May 07, 2003 12:28 PM To: midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Do the people that work on the IBM Info Center actually ever test their work??? ah yes, Mike, that works. But you already knew the answer before you started. Lets say you want to find the DDS manual for V5R2. All you know is that it is on the IBM web site. Can you find the DDS manual at all? If so, within 12 lurches from place to place? I am on a phone dial-up now and man... getting to the right manuals is a gruesome exercise. --------------------------------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.MartinVT.com Booth@xxxxxxxxxxxx --------------------------------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Date: Wednesday, May 07, 2003 10:03:04 To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: RE: Do the people that work on the IBM Info Center actually ever test their work??? I'm not sure which version you're looking for, but this is to the DDS V4R2 (I think): http://publib.boulder.ibm com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/QB3AUI01/CONTENTS?SHELF=&DT=19981002102510#CONTENTS Type in your "EDTWRD". In the old books I'd go to the view the bookshelf, type DDS or RPG or whatever. Click on my book then on the next page I'd click on the flashlight/search icon. Yeah, I guess that is a lot of work! I like the PDF file much more. -----Original Message----- From: Dan [mailto:dbcemid@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, May 07, 2003 10:38 AM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: Re: Do the people that work on the IBM Info Center actually ever test their work??? --- Booth Martin <Booth@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > what is the address? To my knowledge, it is impossible to search for something in a given manual. If there is a way, it is a well-kept secret. You want to find the syntax on DDS EDTWRD? Your results will include hits from across the library. Yes, the advanced search allows you to narrow down the areas, but where do I select to search only the DDS Reference? It would also be nice if the advanced search would remember the categories and subcategories selected, instead of forcing me to select these each and every time I go there. It seems like this would be the perfect job for a cookie. My normal route to finding something I know is in a given manual is to go to iSeriesNetwork's DocFinder. (Many thanks to Chuck Lundgren and iSeriesNetwork!!!) But, I find it rather pathetic that I have to use this route. For DDS Reference, the RPG manuals, and CL Reference, I have downloaded the PDFs and, because we have the full Adobe product here, we are able to build indexes on the contents. But even then, it is painstaking and time-consuming to search a manual because Acrobat doesn't give you a list of hits within a document to choose from, unlike InfoCenter or even that golden oldie, Library Reader (Softcopy). Hopefully, Vern has found the keys to the kingdom. I await his reply. - Dan __________________________________ _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo.cgi/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
