QSH throws an *Escape message QSH0002 to return error notification to OS400.
Read the HELP for the QSH command, and you will find:

*ESCAPE Messages

Subject: error checking following QSH execution

How does one check for execution errors following a QSH call in a CL
program?

If it matters, there are two java programs, one is the program that creates
a PDF from a spool
file, and the other is a program that sends an email with the PDF
attachment.

Answers or links to answers would be greatly appreciated.
