I have seen any number of tests that show FMTDTA as faster than any
other method of "sorting"... OPNQRYF will get much closer with
logicals but since you don't know the final sequence, that's 
gonna be a tougher nut to crack.

It is possible to create "on the fly" specs for Opnqryf with
CLP....

You can "create" sort specs on the fly pretty easy since
FMTDTA uses a source member for the sort specs.

Nothing is gonna run very quick with that many records
unless you got a 890 sitting around....
