I'm learning this new fangled SQL stuff.  Is creating an index faster than 
selecting the records you want?  I like doing the prepared selection when need 
be, but it can be a hog when you're dealing with large files.

That's the gist of the correction(s) I made.  In SQL, CREATE INDEX to define
the keyfields, then you're set.  You can use the index in the KEYFILE parm.

The number and length of the key fields varies wildly, but at times
exceeds what FMTDTA can handle. The problem I have with your suggestion
is that no LF exists so I would have to first write DDS to create it,
compile it, then RGZPFM, and finally blow away the LF. Again, the
sorting is only known at run-time.
