Hard to say.

This function was supposed to be shipped in V5R1, and it missed the
release. Because it was such an important function, IBM PTF'ed it into
V5R1. Plausibly IBM had been planning to add it to the Memo to Users, but
remember that IBM pushed V5R2 out the door prematurely, because it was
required for the 890 hardware, and high end 840 customers were screaming
for capacity.

At that time, 270 and 820 customers were not screaming, so IBM faked a new
product line for those folks with pricing actions.

IBM tells me that they are getting away with the new "Standard" models with
no interactive, and "Enterprise" models with full interactive. (I hear
customers with low interactive screaming, but IBM seems to be deaf.)
Clearing they are trying to push new workloads. Regarding the new
software shipped with the Enterprise models:

1. BRMS now seems key to learn, and I would say that many of us will
need to learn this.
2. Shipping SameTime and QuickPlace without shipping Domino is about as
exciting as kissing your sister. Domino is selling, although not well
enough, and apparently SameTime and QuickPlace are a key enhancement to it.
I have been told that they can be used without Notes, but when I ask how,
no one can give me a cogent answer.
3. Tivoli Storage Manager will be interesting. It is a key part of
IBM's strategy of integrating all their products together, but IBM's
reputation for porting non-400 products to the platform has a bad history,
with the notable exception of Domino, but even that had a shaky start.

Why is image catalog not documented in the v5r2 memo to users?

When I search the pdf
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r2/ic2924/info/rzaq9.pdf
for the words "image catalog" or "imgclg" there are no hits that mean
anything.

Subject: Image catalog to install V5R2

Has anyone used the new image catalog stuff to install V5R2?

I searched the archives and found this question was asked some time back
on the RPG400-L list, but the only response was David asking that it be
moved to the MIDRANGE-L list <g>

Thanks.
