My take on this is the same as most - RPG can be written so poorly that it is difficult to convert it to anything, let alone something as different from RPG as Java. And, converting to Java now may not only slow down the app, but require it to be rewritten into something else again in the future - say, RPG? My question is, what is the actual business "problem" here. Is the customer asking this because there are java bigots? Or someone has convinced them that java is the wave of the future? Is there a business reason to go to Java? There are many alternatives to making an iSeries app become usable in the world of web, Unix or MS... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Franz" <franz400@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, April 11, 2003 12:40 PM Subject: rpg conversion tools to java As much as I hate language conversions, I need to ask for a customer if anyone has had either good or bad experiences converting rpg to java. This is a large corporate package and short time frame. jim
