Ken,
I was just composing my reply when David's post showed up and I'm in his
camp on this one.
I was approached with a similar project recently and my first reaction
was "Yes it probably -can- be done, but..."
I remember the S/34 OCL to S/38 CL conversion program and after running
a few procedures through it we made the business decision to write from
scratch. It did result in some very ugly code that would have been very
difficult to maintain.
If you are in a time crunch to get the conversion done, like moving to a
new platform, you may run the conversion just to get up and running, but
include in your budget for the next three years to visit and write from
scratch every component converted.
MHO,
J. Kilgore

I would ask, while it is possible to convert a RPG program into Java, would
you really want to? The languages take totally different approaches to
basic concepts (database, storage, etc). The resultant Java code would
probably be horrendously ugly and next to impossible to understand & modify.
I suspect for this type of conversion, a total rewrite of the application is
probably in order ...
