What's true and what's not true is in the eye of the beholder. These state
the facts of the matter, as far as I'm concerned:

Except that I don't necessarily agree that this is best for the
non-technical list (tho not my call). Every tech here has the issue of
whether to produce, use, and/or buy what kind-a software with which license.
So I view at is an issue that everyone on this list DOES deal with (although
not strictly technical).

| Technology for itself, not for company interest, or for state.
| Owned by nobody, (little different than communist) :)
| Maybe the only way to compete against microsoft in term of security.

Not necessarily. That's how it was sold, however. First as a necessity to
fight the monopoly Bell Labs had over Unix, and the the MicroSoft
monopoly... The solution: Form another monopoly...

<sheesh>

| RMS's goal is nothing less than the destruction of the software
| industry as
| we now know it. While it is true that you can sell GPLed software, the
| practical effect is that you won't make any sort of a living off of it.
|
| That said, this is a religious issue, best discussed on a
| nontechnical list.
| (I should know. I've been participating in these discussions for
| well over a
| decade now; I invented the term "General Public Virus" in 1989 in one such
| discussion.)
