Can you be more specific in the "point to the V5R1 machine for the source of your Client Access installs"? Do you mean that the Source Directory should be pointed to a folder on the IFS?
Do you know if there is a way to do this automatically on install?

You should be able to go to Client Access Properties, to the Service tab, and point to the V5R1 machine for the source of your Client Access installs. Then do a Check Service Level and follow your nose. It should
upgrade your PC.
