Right on, Steve. These command menus are some of the best sources for us on 
iSeries. And there are only a few verbs that are used a lot. In Appendix D 
of CL Programming is information on command abbreviations

CL Command Verb Abbreviations

Most CL command names follow a consistent naming style. The first three 
letters of the command name represent the action that is being performed. 
The remaining letters of the command name describe the object that is 
having the action performed on it.

Another name for the three-letter command prefix is the command 'verb'. The 
majority of all CL commands use one of the following common command verbs:

Verb Abbreviation Meaning

ADD add
CHG change
CRT create
DLT delete
DSP display
END end
RMV remove
STR start
WRK work with

I think many of these abbreviations are based on Soundex principles.

You can GO VERB or GO SUBJECT to get some interesting and useful lists of 
commands.
