Not enough to be sure here, but it sounds like the old here or there issue. A query from MSACCESS for example will pull a file locally before doing the WHERE
clause try making the QUERY a "Pass Through" and let it run on the iSeries, the same as you are running the data on the SQL ms-server. This way you only return the result set, not the whole table. This by the way is not an iSeries thing it would do the same with a ODBC to Oracle or SYBASE for example.

The same query definition, however, run thru ODBC takes as much as 3 times as long. I'm waiting for him to send me an example of the query statements so that I can examine them for the obvious culprits, but can anybody think of anything else?
