It several years ago now... But i assisted in moving data from an RS6000 running another S36 emulator. It took some doing but, we did it with FTP. Now FTP had a problem with packed fields (i think), so the programming had to write a unpack routine for the data. We then ftp'd it to the 400 and re-packed the data.
