Anne - I downloaded the 25MB app and installed it. No problem, although 25MB seems a tad large. Run it and it wants to use IP port 1506 .. Which is not open in our firewall. Strike 1. OK, I'll check the settings to see how to change it to use HTTP or something we do allow. Other than a proxy server config section, I don't see an area to change it to use the HTTP port (or any other port that is commonly open). We don't use a proxy server. Strike 2. Hit the ICT page and go to support thinking maybe there's something in a FAQ to help. You have to log in to the support page. Annoying. So I log in only to find that the entire support 'site' is nothing but a link to a news group. Strike 3, especially annoying since you have to log in just to get a button to push to go to a newsgroup. We don't allow newsgroup through our firewall either. So I can't even post my connection problem to the newsgroup. Strike 4. Four strikes and you're out. Oh, actually there's a strike 5: A 26MB RAM footprint? That's more than MS Outlook! Anne, please ask the developers to address the above issues. As pessimistic as I sound above, I do want to use the tool. But it has to be able to talk through our firewall, which (as is the case in most companies) only allows the minimum in terms of open IP ports. And if support has to be via newsgroup, please provide at least a basic web front-end for those whose companies do not allow newsgroup access. - John -----Original Message----- From: Anne Lucas [mailto:alucas@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, February 20, 2003 12:24 PM To: undisclosed-recipients Subject: IBM Community Tools Just reminding you to use your iSeries Nation's ID and password and start using this really cool tool called "IBM Community Tools" IBM Community Tools is a dynamic messaging client that combines the highly-scalable one-to-many broadcast messaging technology in IBM MQ Event Broker with the leading enterprise instant messaging capabilities of IBM Lotus Sametime, with Web services running on WebSphere Application Server and DB2.
