Thanks for the info.  We had a Laserjet 4si attached to this 170 previously.
The LJ4si _was_ seen as a 3812 by the iSeries.  (The LJ4si was WAY overkill
for what we needed at that location, but we already had it inhouse.  It had
printed millions of documents for us in a project that ended some years ago
and finally gave up the ghost.)  I tried the same settings with the 3820
with no luck.  However, the 3820 is a $115 printer, so I shouldn't expect
too much. <g>
