I have used Target/400 many times for making S/36 to RPGIII, and OCL to CL. Believe it or not, the RPG II to RPG III part was tougher because of SET and KEY and other bitchy S/3 OPCODEs. Multi-record format files are a problem, and a false positive for a multirecord files is a killer. (e.g.: I have a 50 byte field used for comments, that I never fully use. When laying out the print, the field ends in position 133. If I read the file properly as positions 1 to 50, and then MOVEL it to a 49 byte file, no sweat. But if I set the I specs as 1 to 49, I'm screwed.) John Caine (the Target/400 genius) recommends only externalizing major master files. Good product, good value.
