I don't know how to change the file level identifier, but I do know that a more relevant piece of information for your verification program would be the record level identifier. This is the information checked by programs to determine whether a level check condition exists, which is to say, whether the fields and attributes match the file against which the program was compiled. As far as I know, file level identifier is really not relevant. If you would like, I have some code somewhere that compares the record format level of two files. However, I don't think it handles files with multiple formats. Hope that helps. Donald R.
