Yep, I had already done that (I had already had a bunch of other messages
being handled by that - really cool thing for those of you who don't use it
!) and it worked for a few days and then did it again and now it's been OK
for a few days. Unbelievably irritating :-)

      Don't know if you already got a reply to this, but you could look at
WRKRPYLE & addrpyle CPA4088 to the list with a default reply of G.

Just make sure that the backup job, when submitted, specifies INQMSGRPY
(*SYSRPYL ) - or that if it reads *JOBD, the jobd reads INQMSGRPY(*SYSRPYL
) so that it references that pre-set reply.
