Zak - Add me to the club...I haven't played many video games at home since I played games on my Apple II (loaded from a cassette tape) in 1980. I _do_ have an AS/400 at home, but it's not just for fun...I also have 12 PC's, running various flavors of Windows (W98, W2K, W2K Server, WinXP) and Linux. I consider my setup a laboratory for learning. So far, in my spare time, I'm working on learning Java, VB, ASNA's AVR (Visual RPG), SQL Server, ASP, XML, etc. Next on my plate: .NET I'm not convinced yet that the iSeries is going to fade into oblivion, but the project that I'm currently working on (JDE World, OPM RPG) could very well be my last project working as an iSeries consultant. I am trying to prepare for a future that doesn't include programming on the iSeries (at least in RPG)... To me, the process of solving a programming problem is itself a (sometimes frustrating) game of sorts, but gives me greater satisfaction when resolved and eventually evolves into a complete application. I wouldn't need an AS/400 for that, of course, but if I can, why not use the best (note the swelling pride)? I have to have some tangible goal to keep myself interested, so I developed a website that included another interest, and that's what I use the home machine for (www.distortion.us). > > There are other views, of course. My roommate is also an AS/400 developer, but couldn't care less about it once he leaves the office. > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: Jeff Bull [mailto:Jeff.Bull@itm-group.co.uk] > > Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2003 10:41 AM > > To: 'Midrange Systems Technical Discussion' > > Subject: RE: At the risk of sounding like an AS/400 rah-rah... > > > > > > ... running an AS/400 at home for fun??? > > > > I would have two uses for a AS/400 at home: working from > > home, and heating > > the garage. > > > > For 'fun' at home, try a PC or playstation, remote-control > > cars perhaps :-) > > > > Jeff Bull > > _______________________________________________ > This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list > To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, > visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo.cgi/midrange-l > or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com > Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives > at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l. >
