A console is required (be it a twinax term or a pc with a twinax card) for Manual IPLs and things like a Full System Backups. If by PC you mean a LAN attached PC, 99% of what you need to do can be done from it once you have TCP/IP cfg'd on the F10. In Day to Day operations, the "console" function is by the "user" QSYSOPR and not a by a specific physical device. Hope this is a start _____________________ Kirk Goins Systems Engineer, Manage Inc. However, I have no console for it. I do have the necessary patch cable and doodah (dongle? adaptor?) to connect a pc via network card. Is it possible to IPL this machine without a console? I seem to remember that if you want to use a pc instead of a console it is necessary to first IPL the machine using a console, and then do something (change system values?) in order to get rid of the console and use a pc in it's place. Can anybody enlighten me? Much appreciated. Kevin. p.s. F10 Current usage : Art deco coffee table and conversation piece. (not as inventive as using it as an anchor, but I'm not finished with it yet!) ********************************************************************** Coyle Hamilton Limited is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.
