Dave,

WRKMSGF QCPFMSG will help, but there are many many different message files,
depending on the application, and individual circumstances.

QCPFMSG will get you a large portion of the major OS/400 error messages.

I don't think there is a manual devoted to message descriptions, but a good
start might be the CL Programming guide  (I think)
