Thanks for replying, Evan. Your list was good. I had tried almost everything you mentioned. I am using the native Windows XP Pro FTP client. I also tried with SmartFTP, but I couldn't get it to work at all (next project). I use both Rumba 2000 and CAE (V5R1M0 SI05361) for telnet sessions on the AS/400, and they both work fine...(except for occasional communications failures, which I had previously attributed to problems on the internet when accessing the system remotely). Using the Native Windows FTP client, I could FTP to the AS/400 and logon, enter commands, even use quote rcmd "crtsavf xxxx" to create a save file, with no problem. I found that while I _could_ use GET to get a small save file from the AS/400 and transfer it successfully to the PC, I _couldn't_ use PUT to put it right back on the system...it would always time out with the netout: message. I found my problem...and it is pretty weird... I started thinking that it was possibly a hardware problem. Finally, after searching the archives for a couple of hours, there were a couple of messages that caught my eye...one about having to replace a router and another about having to replace an ethernet switch under similar circumstances. Here's one of them: http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l/200001/msg01777.html What I found was that after I replaced the patch cable from the AS/400 to the ethernet switch, it worked fine! Of course, this was after I had spent a couple of hours changing things on the AS/400, trying various settings to see if they made a difference. Just to verify that the old patch cable was the culprit, I put it back on the system and tried again, getting the same failures as before. So...thanks to and the archives...and those actually tried to help me instead of harassing me... This list rocks! (except for some of you...and you know you you are....)
