Rob, Agreed, but for items like the Fax adapter replacements are available. Same with the ASCII Workstation controller of days gone by. In both those cases there might have been cables and such to change but not thousands of dollars of archive media suddenly left unreadable. And in order to maintain them you have to purchase a new tape drive prior to the upgrade, buy all new working media for that and then buy all new archive media for that and then copy all the tapes. I did have a few customers that missed their 8" diskettes but really they hadn't seen significant use for years and years and certainly didn't contain much in total volume. The 13G QICs being put out to pasture prematurely are customers mainline (and mostly ONLY) backup solution. - Larry
Larry, you're restricting down the list of dropped hardware items to too small a field. Has IBM dropped other (x) devices from support even if all you've done is a software upgrade? 1) Where x=blank. Yes they have. Integrated Fax adapters, firewalls, etc. 2) Where x=Removable media. Yes, they have. 8" diskette, 13gb QIC drive, Rob Berendt
