as a wild stab in the dark I don't suppose you are using a network version
of Excel or your network guys are dong something to reset everything to the
defaults ?

One of the windows guys at my last place of work had a terrible habit of
enforcing his opinions of how applications should be set up on everyone
that had an account on "his" server.

It might be worth asking your microsoft guy (btw, I'm sure he'll say "Oh it
must be Client Access...:) )
