Funny you should mention mud.  My first festival was at Milton Keynes
in... oh, '85, I think.  A friend and I went down from Edinburgh
specifically because the Ramones were playing.  They were great, but the
rain and mud were so bad, that we decided to leave after them.  They
were third on the bill, and we weren't interested in seeing the two
bands above them.

Second on the bill were some American college-rock bunch I'd never
heard.  Headliners were some Irish no-hopers.

That's REM and U2.

Oops.

I was a regular at Reading when it went more punky.  In fact the first
time I went (87) was only for the Friday, and IIRC the Ramones were
playing; I think Tull might have been on on the Saturday or Sunday that
year.  So it all ties together.

Funny how when the States are on holiday the Brits give thanks by
discussing US punk bands, though ;-)
