Hi, Ken:

In CL, you should be able to do a RCVMSG right after the
PING command, to "receive" the COMPletion message and
analyze it, including retrieving any "substitution" values, such
as the values "0" and "5"... :-)  Example:

    RCVMSG PGMQ(*SAME *) MSGTYPE(*COMP) +
        MSGDTA(&MSGDTA)

A Display Message Description of this message ID TCP3210:

    DSPMSGD MSGID(TCP3210) MSGF(QSYS/QTCPMSG)

selecting option "2. Display field data" reveals that the message data
contains three 4-byte binary integers for the substitution variables:

    &1    *BIN    4
    &2    *BIN    4
    &3    *BIN    4

The one you want, from the message text, is "&1" which will be
in the first 4 bytes of &MSGDTA.
