I believe, but cannot verify, that in QSH, you can do: if [ -f /some/file/name ]; then do something else do something else fi I don't think you mention that this needs to be an API. In the QSYS.LIB file system we have CHKOBJ. But in the IFS I can't find any reference to a function that will give me an easy answer.
