The object lock is a great solution, even though the name ISJOBRUNNING
doesn't work out. Instead...

Assuming you are trying to monitor a batch job, DCL a variable or use
system supplied SDS in RPG and retrieve the job name. It definitely will
fit and be valid as the jobname property is 'short' enough. Creating a
library named something like RUNNINGJOB works to contain the objects. In a
CL only solution. the hard coded library name isn't too difficult and the
library list issues aren't a problem.

The next decision to make is the attributes of the object. In this case a
data area. Setting the size to contain additional information can be useful
too. Like storing the job/user/number/date/time of a running job as it
loads.
