Jerry Not sure. My experience with the direct cable is that it has to be attached at IPL in order for the 400 to know about it. Something similar for Ethernet - if a router goes down, I have to go to the direct cable console to reset the line. I bet I'd need to IPL with the control panel in order to get the new console. And, of course, it'd have to come up in DST, in order to tell it to use the LAN Console, I think. Right now I'm very satisfied that it works at all. BTW, I got a console for our V3R7 (don't ask) 150. Used PCOMM's SNA-over-async (or whatever) with COM1 on the PC and what looks like that 2771 (2 comm ports?) on the 400. After IPL, it just worked. I mean, why fight with CA and Ops Console, when PCOMM does it so easily? Same direct cable. And if you had a twinax card on the 400 and on the PC, PCOMM could give you a console that way, too. Not bad for $150 and change. Thanks Vern At 09:29 AM 10/14/02 -0700, you wrote:
Let me suggest that you have a cross over ethernet cable onhand ready for that unlikely but possible eventuality. Would that do it? Jerry
