Dave It's possible to use security auditing, I think. You can set it up to get an entry on a DTAQ every time something is added to the audit journal. The CO entry type is for 'Create object'. You could wait on the DTAQ and filter the entries for the library you're interested in. Somewhat brute force, I supoose, but you can limit the kinds of entries collected, to some extent.
