Hi Steve -

After years of clicking on my CA display session icon and having the
connection start automatically WITHOUT asking for my password, my new
installation of CA Express under XP continually asks me for my password and
I can't seem to find where to change the setup to quit asking.
I think the "Save Password" box provided by Windows went away after
Win98. Was your previous installation on Win95 or Win98?

I did that years ago on my old set up. My AS400 user id and password are
different than my Windows Id and password and I know if they were the same I
wouldn't have a problem. My Ids have never been the same and I don't want to
change that.
For Client Access and Express, I don't believe this would make any
difference. It does for Netserver, but that is not a part of CAE; it's
just Windoze and the AS/400.

Any thoughts on where one "hides" the password for the connection prior to a
display session.
I'm not trying to bypass the AS400 "green screen" signon", just the CA
connection signon.
You can use the cwblogon.exe program as follows:

cwblogon.exe [system] /u [user] /p [password]

You can put a shortcut with this as the target in your startup folder. It
does mean the user name and password will be visible to someone who goes
digging, and you will need to change the shortcut if you change your
password on the AS/400.

We use a generic user profile just for this purpose whose password never
changes and whose initial program on the AS/400 just does a signoff.

Note: [system] is the name of the AS/400 as it is defined in CAE. The
system does not have to be reachable for this function to work. It doesn't
actually connect to the system, it just saves the system, user, and
password for future use. This makes it really nice for laptops that may
not be connected to the network when the program runs.

Note: cwblogon.exe is part of CAE. It should be in your path.

Note: if you have a bunch of systems as I do, you may want to create a .bat
file with all of the cwblogon.exe lines and put a shortcut to the .bat file
in your startup folder.
