Nice solution for WRKQRY (your other post) but a more general solution
might be needed. There's no "Submit to batch" option with SQL, QMQRY, or
OPNQRYF. Now the last one is probably less of an issue, as no typical end
user has a clue about it, and I, for one, would use it at a command line
only if I really liked pain.

A more general solution might include using the system reply list, or *DFT,
as you used. Trusted users might be allowed to use the normal message, with
the 'I' option. From a command line, at least, the user will usually see
the messages. I don't know about when in a program, with no command line
access.

The inquiry message is CPA4259. If answered with a 'C', both interactive
SQL and STRQMQRY get an SQL0666. In addition, STRQMQRY can get a QWM1201.
OPNQRYF gets a CPF9899, which can be monitored for. Not sure about the
first 2 cases, where monitoring is concerned.

You are absolutely correct. But if people get a message that it is
cancelled then they simply take the submit to batch option - this forces
the query to be run in batch wouldn't you agree ?

Perhaps I should have said "you can force queries to be run in batch"
