One comment on this statement Barbara.

I have found one of the best uses for varying parms to be when used to pass
fixed length fields.  If you do _not_ do a %Trim on the parm, the called
routine can automatically detect (via %Len) how long the sending field was
without the need for descriptors and all the API stuff..  This can be very
useful when writing general purpose routines designed to manipulate fields
of any length (e.g. Centering text in a field).  Under these conditions if I
need the field trimmed, I do it is the called routine, not on the parm.  The
calling code is cleaner and doesn't take any longer to execute.
