Looking
at
http://www-919.ibm.com/servlet/factCompare?machDB=&col1=MID&col2=BASEPRICE&col3=CPWINTUNCON&col4=UPGRADEABLE&col5=PERFORMANCEGROUP&col6=PROCCONFIG&col7=CPWPROC&col8=CALNMAILUSER&col9=ARMS&col10=DISKGB&MODEL=270&PROCESSOR=2432&INTERCARD=1519&sysid=270_2432_1516&sortby=1%2B&colNum=2&colKey=colKey

a 270-2432- 1516 which has zero interactive is $15,476 a 270-2432-1519 is
47,776 for 50 interactive. At half price that is $23,888. Better, but still
to much, any increased price is to much. It is nice to see how IBM treats
their loyal customers. You know the ones that went from a S/34 to a S/36 to
a S/38 to an AS/400 to an iSeries. (and some from a S/32 or before) I guess
they figure if they have not lost them by now they are ripe for the picking.

If they would of included interactive for no charge, I would have one on
order now.

I know of one company who is on a 620-2179 who looked at the 820 for about
5 minutes until he say the price. He can buy an upgrade on the used market
for a lot less. And another company that has a 600 2129 when they see the
price of the AS/400 they are going to say that is a lot, but when they see
what the third party is going to charge them they are going to say no way.
And the CEO wants all three plants on the same system, he does not care
what system, just the same. They now have one AS/400 and one unix?
Hopefully they will pick up a bigger used AS/400.

IBM should of gotten as many third party software vendors as they could to
lower the price on the models also. Every time someone looks at an upgrade
with third party tiered priced software, I hear the same thing. They want
to charge us $xx,xxxx more dollars, we get no new features, the same
software, etc. I am thinking of having buttons made up with that on it. :)
When I see what some of these third party vendors get for the annual
maintenance I would be happy with just that.

I guess for now we will keep our green (money) and IBM can keep their green
(interactive CPW).

We should probably move to midrange-nontech@midrange.com
