Mr. Nelson,

Without going to far let me ask you about that social security field in
your database file.

Is that database file an externally defined file ?
Is the social security number an alpha field ? Or a numeric field. If
numeric is it Zoned, Packed, Binary ?

Would you consider converting your Externally defined file to a different
format where you resolve those Leading Zeros ?

Or better yet.

It happens that I have worked with this wonderful set of utilities for the
last two days.
They are a way to get around the shortcomings of the creation of a .CSV
file
and I am happy to report that they work wonderfully.

Try the Martin Rowe's utilities to create a .CSV file
Includes a front end to Edit the Field Mappings (say numeric fields or date
fields .. etc)

Mr. Rowe has produced pretty clean, sharp and effective software to help us
... iSeries developers with the oddities of the creation of a .CSV file

Create a library dbg400 download and install the underlying code

http://www.dbg400.net/dbg400.html

And after that install the additional utilities EDTFLDMAP, CRTCSVDTA and
CRTCSVSTMF

http://www.dbg400.net/crtcsv.html

If you have any question please contact me directly. I am sure the
directions are pretty clear.

Thanks again to Mr. Rowe for his contributions.

... I'm using CPYTOIMPF to create a csv file to send to an Oracle platform.
Yes, I get the blanks at the end of the fields, but the Oracle guys can
deal with that. The part that gets them flustered is this:

The file contains Social Security numbers, and for those numbers that start
with one or two zeros, the leading zeros get stripped off.
