heh, I didn't think of that - I got so frustrated trying to use jar that
that never occurred to me. I agree it will probably work, but I'm not so
keen on the idea of having dependencies in my archive processes. I guess if
I restricted using jar to the ifs and copied my sav files in there I could
make it work in a more clearly segregated fashion.

I do have lot of files I could archive in the IFS and my original intention
was to try and exploit a "common" tool.

Having said that, since I would have to specifiy either an IFS path or a
native OS/400 library/file name I can probably make your suggestion work
although it still seems a little cruder than being able to sepcify multi
member files directly.
