It works but not any better than simply putting the user id and password on
the same line. I get the same message. However, I am able to transfer the
file, which is all that really matters.

        I had a similiar problem with FTP recently.  Don't recall
        if it was the same or not.  Place this statement ahead of
        your USER command and see if this works.

        OPEN '999.999.999.999'
