I am assuming you are using a router to connect the PC's and the 400
together. The router itself will grab an "external ip address". You have
to view the documentation on the router to retrieve this information.
This Ip address is what the other programs need to connect into your
400. You also have to configure the router pass all telnet traffic to
the 400. This is done with a section called "Port Forwarding". After
that is completed, you have to make sure that the *DFTROUTE for the 400
contains the IP address of the router, usually 192.168.0.1 or
192.168.1.1 depending on your router.
You can configure the *DFTROUTE by go tcpadm, option 1, option 2. Here
is what mine looks like...

      Route Subnet Next Preferred
 Opt Destination Mask Hop Interface

      *DFTROUTE *NONE 192.168.0.1 *NONE

Subject: How to make my iSeries at home available to outside programmers

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
At home I have a small network of PC's all connected and sharing a
single cable modem.
I have purchased an iSeries Model 270 running V5R1 and I have managed to
connect it to my home Network.
Now I would like to make my iSeries available to several programmers who
work out of their homes.

My question is - What is the easiest way for me to give access to my
iSeries to people outside of my home network?

Warning - I don't have a lot of experience in networking computers and
using IP addresses.
Someone has told me that since my Network uses a Cable Modem I would
have to get a ?Internet IP Address? and Point it to my Home Network.
That did not mean much to me (Due to my lack of experience, I need more
details then that)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Richard V
