I think that IBM is showing with their actions that ultimately all of the
64 bit systems will run on the same hardware.  Ultimately will likely be
several years away.

This does not mean that they will run the same operating system.  OS/400
will still be the superior beast in this regard, but they all may well run
a similar flavor of microcode.
