Answering error messages

A client posed a question today that I've never encountered, so I thought I'd 
try the list's expertise.

He had some frustrating experiences today with users answering messages on some 
interactive programs ( you know, answering with a C ). This happened 4 times 
with the same user before the problem was reported. By then, they were almost 
in a shut down and restore from backup situation. He asked if there is a way to 
prevent a user from responding to an interactive message.

Any thoughts? And no, I didn't write his software. :-))
